Walsh Construction delivers New Windsor Locks Train Station

Windsor Locks, Connecticut – Walsh Construction joined Governor Ned Lamont, Connecticut Transportation Department of Transportation (CTDOT) Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto and other local officials to celebrate the opening of the new Windsor Locks Train Station. The new station will serve CTrail Hartford Line and Amtrak passengers, creating a centrally located transportation hub that connects rail service, local transit, and expanded access to Bradley International Airport.

Built by Walsh Construction, the station features a 500-foot-long fully accessible boarding platform, 160 parking spaces, electric vehicle chargers, bicycle racks and a dedicated bus pickup and drop-off area. Additional amenities include heated waiting areas, overhead canopies, guardrails, bench seating, and digital signage. Rail improvements include the reconstruction and realignment of approximately 5,700 feet of existing track and the construction of approximately 4,400 feet of new bypass track. Upgraded signals, railroad crossings and train control systems further support safe and efficient rail operations.

The project also includes roadway and pedestrian infrastructure improvements designed to enhance safety, accessibility and operational reliability. Work included approximately 1,800 feet of Main Street reconstruction, upgraded sidewalks and drainage, improved traffic signals, a multiuse trail and a new pedestrian bridge over the Windsor Locks Canal connecting to the Canal Trail.

“We built this new station to correct the missing link in the redevelopment of downtown Windsor Locks, connecting residents to jobs and travelers to Bradley International Airport and beyond,” said Governor Lamont. “Bringing rail and bus service into the heart of downtown encourages new housing and private investment and supports the town’s growth for generations.”
