Cleburne Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion Earns Dual Industry Honors for Innovation and Sustainability
Cleburne, Texas – Archer Western is proud to announce that the Cleburne Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion, delivered in partnership with Freese and Nichols, has earned two prestigious awards recognizing its innovation, sustainability, and impact on the community:
- 2025 Best Project Award in the Water/Environment Category from Engineering News-Record Texas & Louisiana
- Project of the Year Award from the American Public Works Association (APWA) – Texas Chapter.
Built by Archer Western and designed by Freese and Nicholas, the Cleburne Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion and Indirect Potable Reuse (IPR) Program is an innovative approach to support the continued growth in Cleburne. The project includes an increase in treatment capacity from 6.5 million galls per day (MGD) to 10.5 MGD with a new 4 million MGD reuse pump station and the city’s first indirect potable reuse system. The pump station was designed with state-of-the-art advanced biological nutrient removal, UV Disinfection and tertiary filtration to supply high-quality water for reuse or discharge into Lake Pat Cleburne. The city’s potable water supply is being enhanced with a new 4-mile IPR pipeline that delivers reclaimed water directly to the reservoir.
The final design addresses the City of Cleburne’s “One Water” approach to integrating a wastewater reuse into its raw water supply to achieve long-term sustainability and a facility tailored to community and environmental needs. The upgraded facility supports the city’s future growth and needs to address limitations in potable water supply and wastewater treatment capacity in order to ensure a safe, reliable water future for Cleburne.
