Tower crane stable after extreme Dallas weather, precautionary safety inspection underway
DALLAS - A line of severe thunderstorms passed through downtown Dallas on Sunday, June 9th producing damaging winds with isolated gusts up to 75 mph. Sadly, one fatality and six injuries were reported as a result of a weather-related accident involving a piece of large construction equipment from another, unaffiliated contractor's jobsite, and our heartfelt condolences go out to all those affected.
A high-profile Archer Western project, AMLI Fountain Place, was also in the direct path of these storms. The 45-story building is being constructed with the aid of a prominent tower crane that currently sits at approximately 620-feet high. The crane, Liebherr 420 EC-H16, was in weathervane mode while not operating at the time and was unaffected by the storm.

Tower cranes operated by Archer Western and Walsh Construction, undergo a series of continuous safety inspections starting during assembly then continuing daily, monthly, quarterly and annually throughout the duration of the project. Inspections are performed during disassembly as well. Since winds exceeded 70 mph, an immediate inspection has been scheduled for the Archer Western tower crane.
The excessive winds carried some formwork from the top deck of the new building to the neighboring residential property. There were no injuries, however there was some property damage reported. Archer Western personnel were immediately present following the storm to assist in clean up efforts at the jobsite and the adjacent property.
