This 5.2-acre deck park creates an urban green space spanning the Woodall Rodgers Freeway and provide a pedestrian link between downtown Dallas and Uptown. The deck comprises 307 box beams, stretches approximately 1,600 feet and is 192 feet wide. Work required the installation of drill shafts and abutments, construction of a new exit ramp and placement of the deck. Special considerations included installation of geofoam fill material to minimize weight loading, tree wells, and specialized irrigation and drainage features. The resulting tunnel below the deck will require installation of air management systems, emergency egress lighting and extensive fireproofing.
