Along the Veterans Memorial Bridge lives a vast community of wild life. Archer Western employs Catherine Thurston as a manatee spotter and environmental specialist to ensure conditions remain safe for all wildlife around the job site.
Catherine Thurston estimates she's taken more than 3,000 photographs since she began working on the Veterans Memorial Bridge nearly a year and a half ago.
Thurston works as a manatee spotter for Archer Western Contractors, the company building the 2-mile-long structure. She keeps a watch out for the slow-moving, endangered marine mammals and, if necessary, stops work in the area until they pass through.
