Walsh was part of the joint venture that rebuilt this 40-year-old structure destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. The $283 million concrete bridge is over 2 miles long and was built at a much higher elevation to avoid future damage by hurricanes and storm surges. The new bridge has a clearance of 35 feet from the water at its lowest point to the bottom of its girders and 85 feet at its navigation span. Walsh overcame the arduous conditions of the devastated Mississippi Gulf Coast to complete the storm resistant bridge on schedule and on budget.
