South Cobb Water Treatment Plant

Owner:
Cobb County Water System
Location:
Austell, Georgia
Architect:
Brown & Caldwell
Contract Value:
$44,000,000
Completion Date:
June 1998

The scope of work on the project included the various improvements to an existing Water Reclamation Facility. Work included the construction of a new process train (40MGD) adjacent to an existing plant; a headworks structure, screenings building, grit removal facilities, primary sedimentation tanks, aeration tanks, blower building, secondary clarifier, reuse water pumping station, and a plant electrical/generator building. The job also required the demolition of existing headworks, demo and conversion of the existing primary clarifiers to sludge storage tanks, the aerobic digestors to thickened sludge storage and the oxygenation basins to primary effluent equalization basins, a new rotary screen building, septage receiving station and remainder of the generator building. An increase in the initial contract of over $4 million was the result of an owner initiated increase in work to add sludge processing facilities to the project.
