This design-build project consists of two separate contracts. The combined contracts called for the reconstruction/widening of 6 miles of I-70 in Indianapolis. The project includes removal and replacement of pavement, widening and increasing vertical clearances of 28 bridges, reconstruction of ramps, and the removal and replacement of existing pipe and drainage structures. One of the unique aspects concerned with these contracts is the use of a Zipper Wall Machine, which allowed Walsh to continually switch the barrier wall lane closures according to the rush-hour traffic schedule.
