Walsh served as the lead contractor for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission’s $109 million Mon/Fayette Expressway, Section 51A connecting Uniontown to Brownsville in Fayette County, PA. Primary features of this section include approximately 1.1 miles of mainline expressway, a major three-level interchange connecting the expressway to SR 0119, and a diamond interchange connecting the mainline to side roads that connect SR 0051 to US 40. Included in this major project was the design of five bridge structures and widening of two existing structures on SR 0119. The structures include: 2-span prestressed concrete I-beam bridges; three new curved steel ramp bridges consisting of a 3-span continuous bridge with an overall length of 440’ and a radius of 764’; an 8-span bridge comprised of two 4-span continuous units with an overall length of 1,164’ and a radius of 764’; and a 10-span continuous bridge with an overall length of 1,688’ and a radius of 1,373’.
