Walsh Construction led the historic effort to "Revive Wacker Drive," downtown Chicago's historic two-tier roadway used by over 60,000 vehicles a day. Walsh completed three separate contracts for a total value of $184 Million on Wacker Drive and completed the project early. Work consisted of the complete demolition and replacement of the viaduct, lower Wacker roadway, and historical architecture including the eight adjacent cross streets and structures for a total of 4400 LF of roadway. The two-mile long roadway carries tens of thousands of vehicles to the Loop. Walsh maintained vehicular and pedestrian traffic on Wacker Drive throughout the duration of the project. The firm used innovative construction methodology, including High Performance Concrete mix for the first time in Illinois. This project was a Midwest Construction Top Illinois Project of 2003.
