After completing Blue Cross Blue Shield’s design-build corporate headquarters in 1997, Walsh was chosen as its national contracting firm. After nearly ten years of occupancy at 300 E. Randolph, BCBS has decided to proceed with its Vertical Completion Project. In order to accommodate BCBS’s continued growth and expansion needs, the project consists of a 24-floor structural steel framed addition to the existing 33-story structure. The curtain wall enclosure of the expansion will match the existing original curtain wall system. Included in the addition are sixteen new elevators, four escalators, two floors of food service and a new conference center on the 30th floor. Overall, the capacity of the building will nearly double to almost 8000 employees.
