The UA Whitaker Biomedical Engineering Building (BME) is a 90,000 SF five-story concrete framed facility. The building is designed as two wings joined by a common connector. The north and south wings are comprised of classrooms, laboratories, offices and a lecture hall, while the connector primarily provides public gathering spaces. The main 75 seat lecture theater features upholstered fixed seating fully equipped with data and power at each seat as well as a state-of-the-art theater dimmer system, audio visual system, motorized projector screens, and fabric sound wall panels. The project was awarded the American Concrete Institute Georgia Chapter’s 2003 1st Place Award for Low-Rise Buildings.
