The Columbian is a 572,000 SF, 48-story high-rise condominium project composed of 220 units, with residential parking located on floors two through eight. The Columbian was constructed with a concrete frame and brick veneer/precast concrete facade. In order to make the project unique, architect DeStefano and partners, Ltd. designed a hand-set masonry exterior to differentiate it from the typical glass and concrete surfaces of modern high-rise construction. The design feature made The Columbian the largest hand-set masonry building east of the Mississippi River. Walsh chose to perform the cast-in-place concrete work on a two-day pour cycle to meet the client’s scheduling needs.
