The scope of the John G. Shedd Aquarium project includes several distinct areas of work including an office expansion, new terraces, food service, and guest services improvements, as well as significant oceanarium exhibit and infrastructure improvements. The oceanarium maintenance and theater work were the major portions of the Shedd Aquarium project. In September 2008, the oceanarium facility was shut down to the public, the marine life relocated, and water drained from the pools. Walsh performed extensive selective demolition on the existing exhibits, and new habitats were created.
