RDU Celebrates Topping Off Terminal 2

August 2009
The Raleigh Durham International Airport celebrated construction progress on Terminal 2 with a topping off ceremony on Friday, August 7th. About 200 hard-hat workers joined guys with ties to autograph the 31-ton ceiling beam before it was hoisted into place 40 feet over the entrance hall floor.
This is a long-awaited accomplishment as the first piece of steel was set almost three years ago. The northern half of the passenger terminal opened for business in October, and phase 2 of the $570 million project is to be finished in early 2011. The unique rolling roofline is created by the roof structure composed of glulam timbers, 5-inch wide cables, and tresses made up of steel and wood cables.
