As part of our mission to promote careers in construction, Walsh hosted 17 students from the Ferris State University Associated Schools of Construction Club on April 17, 2009. The group toured the following jobs:

I-294 – This job on the Tri-State Tollway consists of roadway removal, widening and reconstruction of the northbound lanes near Crestwood, IL. Students learned about concrete paving, drainage system construction, erosion control, maintenance of traffic, noise wall construction, and bridge deck widening and reconstruction.

Wilson Yard - The Wilson Yard project is a multi-use/residential regional development complex consisting of a residential family tower, a residential senior living tower, and street level retail space. In addition to the construction approach, student learned about the unique funding strategy, which includes TIF, developer and retail owners' equity, and private loans.

The Legacy - This project includes a 72-story mixed-use, high-rise building, which will combine 356 condominium units, a school, retail and parking areas. In order to maintain the historical integrity of the site, the three existing buildings will have their facades preserved and restored as part of the project, but the balance of the structures behind the facades will be demolished. The students also learned about the design and installation of the curtain wall system, which was procured from a vendor in China.
